Eric Haze

Whilst researching a forthcoming project I discovered just how many seminal hip-hop logo's have been designed by Eric Haze.

From his biography: Born and raised in New York City, Eric Haze has been making his impact felt in the worlds of art, product and graphic design for over 30 years. After spending the early 80's on the front lines of the downtown New York art scene, Haze opened his design studio in 1986, becoming one of the first visual artists to define the look and graphic language of Hip Hop during it's golden years. Some of his most classic works include designs for Public Enemy, EPMD, LL Cool J, and the Beastie Boys.

Peepshow Collective

I'm very excited to announce details of Peepshow's first book, 'Peepshow Collective' will be published in February by Index book with design by Studio EMMI.

Peepshow has achieved a rare alchemy: corralling a set of unique visual talents into a cohesive, and hugely influential, collective. Over the past decade, the London based group have worked across illustration, animation,set design, textiles and art direction for such clients as the Victoria & Albert Museum, M&C Saatchi, BBC, The New York Times and SHOWstudio, while also creating their own work for books, exhibitions and events worldwide. They’ve represented the best of British image-making at expos for The British Council and The Museum of Modern Art in Japan, and have featured in shows at the ICA, the Hayward Gallery and Somerset House. Despite, or because of, their focus on the individual, Peepshow as a group have become a force to be reckoned with. Instead of fitting themselves into a preexisting mould, the ten members have together created their own market. This book is a chance to delve into the Peepshow imagination, scanning collective and individual work from the past decade and glimpsing future directions. It’s also a rare chance to see behind the pixels, an interview with all of Peepshow’s members offering their take on where they start, when they decide to stop, and what happens in between.

Pick Me Up 2012

Peepshow will be at Pick Me Up in 2012 for a 10 day residency with 'The Museum of Objects & Origins'.Bringing together a collection of artefacts including drawings, objects, prints, and costumes, to be housed in our very own museum. Exhibiting items from an invented past, the collection will also be a living, changing display as themed workshops with the public will create new works to fill the final few empty cabinets. It's all been a bit quiet on here recently but I've been working away on lots of projects over the last few weeks/months, some of which I'm still beavering away on and many long finished but not yet revealed by the client. I've completed work on a silkscreen poster promoting Channel 4 News for the good folks at New Studio London. New editorials for Wired and Out Magazines in the USA and currently in the midst of something a bit different for Creative Review working with master photographer Stephen Lenthall. 2012 will be a big Peepshow year with the publication of our first book in April and something rather BIG lined up easter time. Whilst flicking through the racks of a soho record shop recently I came across bit of a blast from the past, 'The Hits of House', takes me right back to the late 80's when I was buying my first records. I very rarely buy a record purely for the sleeve but did this time, not that the music is bad, far from it. How could you resist a record with S-Express, Nitro Deluxe, Bomb the Bass and The Wee Papa Girl Rappers all in one place? The sleeve is by Main Artery and turns out they've designed an enormous amount of record sleeves over the last 25 years, including most of the late 80's Stock, Aitken & Waterman output. More here.
