Coming soon...

Very excited to say that the new Peepshow website has been delivered this week by wizards of the web Sennep. Now begins the mammoth task of loading all the content in. It's a great site, completely different to the last one with the focus firmly on the work over exciting programming. Launching early in the new year...www.peepshow.org.uk.

Print Club

I was up at the marvellous Print Club in Dalston today at a silkscreen workshop, brushing up on my poor skills from years back. It was a lovely day, very informative and highly recommended, thanks to Kate and master printmaker Fred for all the help. You can sign up for the Print Club Beginners Workshop here. I produced an A5 print in an edition of 50 which I think I'll give away with the next Peepshow Quarterly, we shall see.

My choice was 'Come Alive! The Spirited Art of Sister Corita' by Julie Ault. The amazing typographic silkscreen work of a Catholic Nun in the sixties. Thanks to Alex for getting us involved.

Renault Tests

A couple of many recent tests for Renault Megane (via Publis, London) that didn't get off the ground. Shame, but it was nice to carve up and collage multiple angles of cars. Something a bit cubist about it all, which I'll be sure to follow up.

September 2009

Well I finally (after two months) wrapped up on a little project with Grey in Paris which comes out later in the year (I think). Just finished a bunch of Illustrations for the relaunched EMB Viewpoint Magazine, working with the lovely folks at Morning Design. Onto a few more Illustrations in the USA at the moment and continuing to prepare material working alongside Sennep for the forthcoming Peepshow website relaunch, all very exciting.

August 2009

It's sure been a while, well I've been in advertising 'test' land for the last month or so, a few projects that may or may not happen, who knows. Time will tell. Also recently worked on editorial illustrations for Inc Magazine in the USA and The Times here in London. Exciting Peepshow news for Autumn 2009! I'm in the very early stages of working on a new Peepshow website, at the controls (once again) South London's finest web wizards, the mighty Sennep. Time to retire the old slide projector to the loft, It's worked hard for us for over four years. Stay tuned.

June

Exhibition a go-go at the moment, just putting the final touches to the print I've designed for the forthcoming 'Secret Blisters' show (details below). If you fancy picking up one of an edition of 35 which is hand silkscreened, numbered, signed, and only £35, you know where to be. MC Motors, Millers Ave, Dalston, E8 on the weekend commencing June 27th (but you'll have to guess which one is mine). The Blisters show from 2008 was one of the best shows I went to last year.

My work for the forthcoming Peepshow exhibition 'Inbetween' (which opens June 17th), found it's way to the framers just in the nick of time last Friday. Exciting stuff, bit of a new direction (I didn't use a computer for once, shock horror). On to designing the catalogue next week.

In other news I've just wrapped up on Illustrations for Wired, Institutional Investor, WWD and Puma which will be published soon.

Coming soon.....

Over the last few weeks I've been making new collage work for the forthcoming Peepshow exhibition 'Inbetween' which opens next month. The first work I've made without the aid of a computer for a considerable amount of time, maybe ten years! I've throughly enjoyed it and plan to make it a mission to not rely on those pesky shiny things so much in the future. Good old spray mount, pritt stick and a pack of 10A's.

The Wonderful World of Andy Sidaris

I recently discovered the quite incredible movies of Andy Sidaris who sadly passed away in 2007, they really are quite something and need to be seen to be believed. I throughly recommend 'Hard Ticket To Hawaii' which features amazing scenes of a skateboarding assassin with a blow-up doll, a killer frisbee, and a cancer ridden deadly snake. 'Malibu Express', the tale of a skirt chasing private detective called Cody and 'Fit to Kill', featuring Roger Moore's son Geoffrey, a stolen nazi diamond, archive World War 2 footage and a radio controlled miniature helicopter fight. My jaw was on the floor throughout. Without a doubt an Ed Wood for our times.

Trailers:
'Hard Ticket to Hawaii' (1987)
'Malibu Express' (1985)
'Fit To Kill' (1993)

Maybe the best scene in a film ever, from 'Hard Ticket to Hawaii', Lethal Frisbee.

Mingering Mike

Between 1968 and 1977 Mingering Mike recorded over fifty albums, managed thirty-five of his own record labels, and produced, directed and starred in nine of his own motion pictures. In 1972 alone he released fifteen LPs and over twenty singles, and his traveling revue played for sold out crowds the world over.

How is it that such a prolific musician has gone under the radar for the more than thirty years? The answer is that all took place in Mike's imagination, and in the vast collection of fake cardboard records and acapella home recordings that he made for himself as a teenager in Washington, D.C. in the late 1960s.

Great book on Mingering Mike, 'Mingering Mike-The Amazing Career of an Imaginary Soul Superstar' by Dori Hadar. Available on amazon here.
